Peran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan dalam Membentuk Karakter Warga Negara yang Demokratis dan Berbudaya

Abstract

This article discusses the role of Civic Education in shaping the character of democratic and cultured citizens. In the era of globalization, technological developments and the influence of foreign cultures have affected the behavior and character of the younger generation, making education an important medium for instilling moral, democratic, and cultural values. This study uses a literature review method by examining various sources such as journals, books, and scientific articles related to Civic Education and character education. The results show that Civic Education plays an important role in developing citizens who possess democratic attitudes, tolerance, responsibility, and love for their culture and nation. Democratic and cultural values can be implemented through the Civic Education curriculum, both in classroom learning activities and through habituation in the school environment. However, the implementation of Civic Education still faces several challenges, such as learning that focuses too much on memorization, the lack of engaging teaching methods, and the negative influence of social media and globalization on students’ character. Therefore, more creative, participatory, and contextual learning strategies are needed so that character-building goals can be achieved optimally. Thus, Civic Education can become an important instrument in shaping democratic, cultured citizens who are able to face the challenges of modern developments without abandoning the values of Pancasila.
