PENERAPAN PENDEKATAN GENRE-BASED UNTUK MENGEMBANGKAN KEMAMPUAN MENULIS SISWA PADA MATA PELAJARAN BAHASA INDONESIA

Abstract

Writing skill is one of the crucial aspects in Indonesian language learning. However, students often encounter difficulties in producing good quality writing. To address this issue, this research aims to investigate the development of students' writing skills through the implementation of a genre-based approach in Indonesian language education. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) with eighth-grade students as the research subjects in a urban junior high school. The genre-based approach emphasizes understanding specific types of texts and their structures. In this approach, students are encouraged to understand various genres of writing and the language structures appropriate for each genre. The steps in implementing the genre-based approach include introducing various types of texts, analyzing text structures, writing practice, and reflection on the produced writings. The results of the research show a significant improvement in students' writing skills after implementing the genre-based approach. Students demonstrate better abilities in understanding text structures, using appropriate vocabulary, and organizing ideas systematically. Moreover, students also show a greater interest in writing after gaining deeper understanding of various genres of writing. These findings indicate that the genre-based approach is effective in developing students' writing skills in Indonesian language education. The implication of this research underscores the importance for Indonesian language teachers to consider implementing the genre-based approach in writing instruction to enhance the quality of students' writing.
