PENERAPAN PROGRAM 5S DALAM MEMBENTUK KARAKTER DISIPLIN DAN SOPAN SANTUN PADA SISWA SDN MANDING LAOK 1

Abstract

Character education is a crucial aspect of education, particularly at the elementary school level, which serves as the initial stage in the development of students' personalities. The development of discipline and good manners needs to be initiated early through various systematic and ongoing efforts. One such effort is the implementation of the 5S program (Smile, Greet, Greet, Be Polite, and Courteous) to foster positive behavior in daily life within the school environment. This study aims to describe the implementation of the 51S program in developing discipline and good manners among students at SDN Manding Laok 1 and to determine the impact of the program's implementation. This study used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects included students and teachers at SDN Manding Laok 1. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Observations were conducted to directly observe the implementation of the 5S program within the school environment. Interviews were conducted to obtain information from teachers and students regarding the program's implementation. Documentation, in the form of activity photos and school records, served as supporting data. The data obtained were then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the 5S program has been consistently implemented through various habit- building activities at school, such as greeting teachers, smiling and greeting them during interactions, and being polite and courteous within the school environment. The implementation of this program has had a positive impact on student character development, including increased discipline, fostering respect for teachers and peers, and creating a more conducive and harmonious school environment. However, several challenges remain, such as a lack of consistency among some students and the need for ongoing supervision.
