Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made gadgets an inseparable part of elementary school students' lives, including at SDN 25 Buton. However, gadget use without adequate digital literacy risks negative impacts such as addiction, decreased learning concentration, exposure to inappropriate content, and low ability to filter false information (hoaxes). This community service program aimed to increase the knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills of elementary school students in utilizing gadgets in a healthy, safe, and responsible manner. The implementation method utilized a participatory and child-friendly approach consisting of four main activities: educational socialization, practical simulations on filtering information, interactive quizzes, and a joint commitment declaration. The targets involved 35 students (17 lower-grade and 18 upper-grade students) and 17 teachers from SDN 25 Buton. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding regarding four main pillars of digital literacy: digital safety, digital ethics, digital culture, and digital skills. Students demonstrated improved knowledge regarding screentime limits, personal data protection, and the ability to identify simple hoaxes. The activity concluded with the signing of a shared commitment poster to be displayed in classrooms. Collaboration between universities and school partners proved effective in fostering early digital literacy and establishing sustainable digital character building in elementary schools.
