The Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) is a government initiative aimed at improving students' nutritional status and reducing the prevalence of malnutrition and stunting in Indonesia. However, its implementation has encountered several challenges, particularly regarding food quality and food safety, including the distribution of unfit food, inadequate hygiene and sanitation standards, and non- compliance with operational procedures. These issues may reduce the effectiveness of the program in achieving its intended objectives. Therefore, this internship report aims to analyze the quality and safety of food in the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) in Sorong City and Sorong Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, literature review, and direct field practice during the internship at the Regional Economy and Natural Resources Division (PEREKDA) of the Sorong City Government Office. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to provide an overview of the implementation of the program from the perspectives of food quality and food safety. The findings indicate that the success of the MBG Program depends not only on the nutritional value of the meals but also on the quality of raw materials, food processing, sanitation, storage, distribution, and food handling in accordance with food safety standards. Several implementation challenges highlight the need for stricter supervision, consistent application of standard operating procedures, and stronger coordination among the local government, the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), and related institutions. Improving food quality and safety is expected to optimize the effectiveness of the MBG Program in supporting students' health, growth, and nutritional needs in Sorong City and Sorong Regency.
