Abstract

This study comprehensively examines rasm al-Qur'an, covering its historical dimensions, rules of writing, and its relevance in preserving the authenticity of the Qur'anic text. Rasm al-Qur'an refers to the manuscript writing system established during the caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan, which has since become the standard followed to this day. Using a descriptive-analytical approach and library research, this study reviews various classical and contemporary sources related to the science of rasm al-Qur'an. The findings indicate that the Uthmanic rasm possesses established and systematic rules that are not merely conventional but contain profound wisdom regarding the preservation of Qur'anic recitations and meanings. This study also reveals that the differences between Uthmanic rasm and imla'i rasm are not a weakness, but rather constitute part of the richness of the Qur'anic scholarly tradition, which is laden with scientific and historical value. The conclusion of the study affirms that a deep undrstanding of rasm al-Qur'an is essential for academics, teachers, and memorizers of the Qur'an in preserving the purity and authenticity of the holy scripture of Muslims.
