Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of TikTok usage intensity on the mental health of upper-grade female students at MI Assamarqondi Palang. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with 15 female students in grades 4, 5, and 6 selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results showed that most students used TikTok at a relatively controlled intensity, namely around 1–2 hours at a time and used approximately twice a day. The content accessed was generally light entertainment and educational content. Controlled TikTok use was influenced by parental supervision and restrictions on cellphone use. In addition, most students were able to control themselves in following trends on social media. This study also found positive and negative impacts of TikTok use on students' mental health. Positive impacts include increased focus on learning, discipline in time management, and maintained social interactions. Meanwhile, negative impacts that emerged included decreased concentration in learning, increased distraction, a tendency to compare oneself with others, and reduced self-confidence if TikTok use was not limited. Therefore, parental and teacher supervision is very necessary so that the use of social media can provide benefits without disrupting students' mental development.
