EFEKTIVITAS METODE QIRO'ATI DALAM MENINGKATKAN KUALITAS MEMBACA AL-QUR'AN SISWA MI DARUL MUTTAQIEN DUMAI

Abstract

Student ability to read the Qur'an correctly according to the rules of tajwid remains a persistent challenge at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary school) level in Indonesia, with Ministry of Religious Affairs data indicating that around 30% of madrasah students have not yet met the minimum standard. This study examines the effectiveness of the Qiro'ati method in improving the quality of Qur'an reading among students at MI Darul Muttaqien Dumai. A quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest design was used, involving 50 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a Qur'an-reading test assessing four aspects—tajwid, fluency, articulation point (makharijul huruf), and recitation rhythm (tartil)—scored using a validated rubric, supported by observation and documentation, and analyzed through mean comparison and a paired-sample t-test. The results show that the mean pretest score of 52.16 increased to 81.42 at posttest, a gain of 29.26 points; the paired-sample t-test yielded t = -52.41 (df = 49, Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.001), indicating a statistically significant difference. Before treatment, students were categorized as poor (54%) or fair (46%); after treatment, none remained in those categories, with 72% classified as good and 28% as very good. These findings confirm that the Qiro'ati method, implemented through systematic planning, direct and repeated practice, and continuous teacher correction, is effective in improving students' Qur'an-reading quality and can be recommended as an instructional alternative at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level.
