ANALISIS STRATEGI KEGIATAN LITERASI DALAM MENINGKATKAN MINAT BACA PESERTA DIDIK KELAS V DI UPTD SDN DANAU INA KOTA KUPANG

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the literacy activity strategies implemented by teachers to improve the reading interest of fifth-grade students at UPTD SDN Danau Ina, Kupang City. The background of this study stems from the low level of students’ reading interest due to limited literacy facilities, the lack of reading materials, the suboptimal use of reading corners, and the influence of technology that causes students to prefer using gadgets rather than reading books. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, involving the principal, classroom teacher, and 25 students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that literacy strategies are implemented through three stages: habituation, development, and learning. The habituation stage includes a 15-minute reading activity before lessons, the provision of classroom reading corners, and the creation of a text-rich environment. The development stage involves mandatory library visits, book discussions, and literacy competitions, while the learning stage integrates reading activities into classroom instruction using various methods and media. Supporting factors include the involvement of teachers, schools, and parents, while inhibiting factors consist of limited facilities and low student motivation. The study concludes that well-planned and varied literacy strategies can effectively enhance students’ reading interest, as reflected in their increased enthusiasm, reading frequency, and comprehension ability. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for teachers and schools in developing effective literacy programs in elementary education
