Abstract

The problem addressed in this study stems from the challenges of globalization, which demand creative and integrative approaches to Islamic preaching (dakwah). The study focuses on the theo-ecological preaching model, which positions agricultural activities as a means of understanding the Qur’anic verses concerning the signs of Allah’s creation (ayat kauniyah). The objectives of this study are to analyze the general overview of agricultural-based activities, explore the strategies used to implement agricultural-based Islamic preaching, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. The study is expected to make theoretical contributions to the development of dakwah bil hal (preaching through action) and practical contributions to promoting the economic self-sufficiency of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) through the agribusiness sector. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive case study design. Primary data were obtained through direct observation of a 75-hectare agricultural area and in-depth interviews with key informants, including the Director of the Islamic Boarding School, the Principal of the Agricultural Vocational High School (SMK Trenqaun), and students (santri). Secondary data were obtained from historical documents and pesantren management records. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted systematically through editing, classification, interpretation, and data reduction to draw comprehensive conclusions. The findings indicate that agricultural activities at Darul Fallaah serve as a key pillar of institutional self-sufficiency, with 90% of the harvest allocated for internal consumption. The preaching strategy is implemented through an integrative approach combining dakwah bil hal and environmental theology, as demonstrated by the One Day One Plant program and the SMK Trenqaun curriculum, which integrates the study of ayat kauniyah into the learning process for each plant species. Furthermore, dakwah bil qalam (preaching through writing) is developed through the preparation of a book entitled Tafsir Trenqaun. The main supporting factors include the availability of extensive agricultural land and institutional support from Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar). Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include limited access to modern agricultural machinery, pest infestations, and social challenges arising from free-roaming livestock owned by the surrounding community.
