Abstract

The success of an educational institution depends on its leadership. To ensure that educational goals are achieved efficiently and effectively, leaders are strategically responsible for guiding, influencing, and mobilizing all organizational resources. With the aim of improving the effectiveness of the governance of educational institutions, this study investigates the concepts and principles of leadership. The research methodology used is a literature review, which includes an analysis of various books, journals, and scholarly articles on educational leadership. The data is the target of descriptive analysis by dividing the main themes related to leadership concepts and principles. Research shows that educational leaders should have traits such as helpfulness, humility, confidence, patience, emotional stability, honesty, fairness, and expertise. In addition, behaviors that include instruction, consultation, participation, delegation, motivation, supervision, and academics demonstrate leadership. Proper leadership can improve teacher performance, improve the quality of learning, facilitate organizational coordination, and increase the effectiveness of school governance. As a result, leadership qualities are an important foundation for building an innovative, flexible, and competitive educational institution.
