ANALISIS KESULITAN BELAJAR MATEMATIKA PADA MATERI PERKALIAN SISWA KELAS III DI SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties students in third grade face when learning multiplication and identify the factors influencing these challenges. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with participants including third-grade students, classroom teachers, and other stakeholders involved in the learning process. Data were collected through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation methods, and conclusion drawing to gain a comprehensive understanding of students' learning difficulties. The findings indicate that students encounter various difficulties in mastering multiplication, such as struggling to comprehend multiplication as repeated addition, facing challenges in calculation procedures, and having trouble memorizing multiplication tables. Furthermore, students struggle with solving word problems, make errors in place value assignments during multiplication, and exhibit a lack of attention to detail while working through exercises. These learning difficulties stem from both internal and external factors: internally, they include low motivation and self-confidence; externally, they involve limited variety in teaching methods and insufficient use of instructional materials that aid conceptual understanding. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that difficulties in learning multiplication mathematics are complex and influenced by multiple factors. Therefore, improvements are needed through innovative teaching methods, engaging instructional materials, and consistent practice to optimally enhance students' comprehension of multiplication concepts.
