Abstract

This study aims to improve third-grade students’ understanding of fractions through the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) learning model assisted by folding paper media. This research was motivated by students’ low understanding of fraction material, so a more active and concrete learning process was needed. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were third-grade elementary school students. Data collection techniques included tests, observations, and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of the STAD model assisted by folding paper media could improve students’ understanding of fraction concepts, as indicated by the improvement in learning outcomes, student participation, and teamwork during the learning process. Folding paper media helped students understand fraction concepts concretely and more easily, while the STAD model encouraged students to learn actively in groups. Therefore, the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) model assisted by folding paper media was effective in improving third-grade students’ understanding of fractions.
