ANALISIS KESULITAN BELAJAR SISWA DALAM MATERI PECAHAN SEDERHANA MELALUI PENERAPAN MODEL DISCOVERY LEARNING DI KELAS IV SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract

 This study aims to analyze students’ learning difficulties in understanding simple fraction material and to examine the implementation of the Discovery Learning model in overcoming these difficulties among fourth-grade elementary school students. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving 25 students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and written tests to obtain comprehensive information regarding students' conceptual understanding. The results indicate that students experience conceptual difficulties in understanding the meaning of fractions, procedural difficulties in performing fraction operations, and didactical obstacles caused by less varied teaching methods. Many students tend to memorize rather than understand the relationship between numerator and denominator. The implementation of the Discovery Learning model shows a positive impact, where students become more active, engaged, and able to construct their own understanding through exploration and guided discovery activities. This model provides meaningful learning experiences and helps students connect abstract concepts with real-life situations. Therefore, Discovery Learning is considered effective in minimizing learning difficulties and improving students' conceptual understanding of simple fractions.
