PENGARUH PENDIDIKAN GEOGRAFI DALAM MEMBANGUN KEPEDULIAN LINGKUNGAN PADA SISWA SEKOLAH MENENGAH

Abstract

Geography education plays a significant role in shaping students' environmental awareness, especially during their critical developmental stages. This article aims to investigate the role of geography education in fostering environmental awareness, focusing on high school students. The research method employed is a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Findings from this study indicate that geography education makes a significant contribution to shaping students' environmental awareness. Through geography learning, students become more conscious of global environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. Additionally, geography education enhances students' understanding of the relationship between humans and the environment and the importance of sustainability. However, challenges such as resource limitations, overloaded curricula, and the need for innovative teaching methods were also identified. This article concludes by emphasizing the importance of the role of geography education in shaping environmental awareness among high school students and highlighting the need for continuous improvement and enhancement of teaching methods to address increasingly complex global environmental challenges.
