Abstract

Timeliness of audited financial reporting is essential for maintaining the relevance of accounting information in the capital market. This study examines whether audit fee and firm size explain variations in audit delay among industrial-sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during 2021–2025. A quantitative causal-associative design was employed using secondary data obtained from audited annual financial statements and annual reports. Purposive sampling produced 28 companies observed for five years, resulting in 140 firm-year observations. Audit fee and firm size were transformed into natural logarithms, while audit delay was measured as the number of days between the fiscal year-end and the date of the independent auditor’s report. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical-assumption diagnostics, multiple linear regression, partial t-tests, simultaneous F-tests, and the coefficient of determination in SPSS. The findings show that audit fee has a positive and significant effect on audit delay (B = 7.729; t = 14.510; p < 0.001), whereas firm size has a negative and significant effect (B = -3.240; t = -8.905; p < 0.001). Simultaneously, both variables significantly explain audit delay (F = 133.092; p < 0.001), with an Adjusted R Square of 0.655. These results indicate that higher audit fees may reflect broader and more complex audit engagements, while larger firms tend to have stronger reporting systems and internal controls that support faster audit completion.
