Assessment in Indonesian language learning at the Junior High School (SMP) level is still dominated by conventional forms that are unable to adequately measure students' critical and analytical thinking skills. This article aims to 1) analyze the relevance of deep learning principles to the demands of language competency in the independent curriculum at the SMP level; 2) identify forms of assessment that align with the deep learning approach in Indonesian language learning, and 3) formulate the practical implications of deep learning as a basis for developing Indonesian language assessment instruments. This research uses a systematic literature review method. The results of the study indicate that first, the 6C framework in deep learning has strong relevance to the four language skills and the dimensions of the Pancasila profile; second, portfolios, project-based assessments, analytical rubrics, and reflective journals are the assessment instruments most aligned with deep learning principles; and third, its practical implications rest on three pillars: meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning. This article is expected to serve as a conceptual reference for teachers and policymakers in developing more meaningful and in-depth Indonesian language assessments..
