CANDI MUARO JAMBI SEBAGAI BAHAN PEMBELAJARAN SEJARAH OLEH SISWA

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of Candi Muaro Jambi as a historical learning resource for students. Candi Muaro Jambi is one of the largest historical and cultural heritage sites in Southeast Asia that possesses high educational value in history learning, particularly regarding the development of religion, culture, and ancient Malay civilization in Indonesia. In the learning process, the utilization of local historical sites can help students understand historical materials in a more contextual, concrete, and engaging way, thereby increasing students’ interest in learning and awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through literature studies, observation, and documentation regarding the potential of Candi Muaro Jambi as a historical learning resource. The results indicate that Candi Muaro Jambi has great potential as a medium and source of history learning because it can provide students with more concrete learning experiences. Furthermore, the use of local historical sites in learning can foster nationalism, appreciation of regional culture, and students’ critical thinking skills in understanding historical events. Therefore, Candi Muaro Jambi can serve as an effective and relevant alternative historical learning resource in supporting the educational process, especially in materials related to local history and the development of Islamic as well as Hindu-Buddhist civilizations in Indonesia.
