Abstract

Transnational crimes, such as drug trafficking, terrorism, and money laundering, have become significant challenges in the era of globalization. This article analyzes the role of international law in addressing transnational crimes with a focus on regional cooperation. International law provides the foundation for international conventions and multilateral agreements, such as the Palermo Convention, which promote inter-country collaboration. The principles of extradition and joint prosecution serve as crucial instruments in pursuing and adjudicating perpetrators of cross-border crimes. Regional cooperation, through the establishment of regional institutions and harmonization of national laws, has proven effective in facilitating the exchange of information and operational coordination among nations. Nevertheless, challenges in implementation and the evolution of transnational crimes driven by technology necessitate innovation in collaborative efforts. This article concludes that international law, particularly in the context of regional cooperation, plays a pivotal role in addressing transnational crimes, with collective and comprehensive efforts being key to success in this era of globalization.
