KAJIAN PSIKOLOGI SASTRA DALAM NASKAH DRAMA BOR KARYA PUTU WIJAYA

Abstract

This study examines the drama script “BOR” by Putu Wijaya through the perspective of literary psychology. The main conflict in this drama occurs between the character Kepala and the other characters, especially Dalang, Pengikut, Wartawan, Hansip, and the surrounding community. Kepala is portrayed as a symbol of authoritarian power that seeks to control the situation, while the other characters display fear, confusion, and psychological pressure caused by that power. In addition, conflict also appears between humans and the character Komputer, which symbolizes technology and modern systems that operate without emotion. This opposition reflects how human life is increasingly dominated by regulations, power, and technology, causing humanitarian values to gradually disappear. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a text analysis technique focusing on dialogue, conflict, character behavior, and psychological conditions found in the drama script “BOR”. The analysis is conducted based on three perspectives proposed by René Wellek and Austin Warren: (1) Author Psychology, which examines the author’s psychological condition, experiences, thoughts, and worldview reflected in the literary work. (2) Character Psychology, which studies the psychological condition of characters through their attitudes, emotions, behavior, and conflicts experienced in the story. (3) Reader Psychology,  which discusses the influence of literary works on readers, particularly their feelings, emotions, thoughts, imagination, and psychological responses after reading or watching a literary work. The results of the analysis show that “BOR” critically portrays modern society as being filled with social pressure, power struggles, instability, and the loss of humanitarian values. Through conflicts among characters, absurd dialogues, and tense situations, the drama illustrates human conditions marked by fear, anxiety, confusion, and vulnerability to manipulation by systems and authority. Through its absurd comedic style and tense atmosphere, “BOR” not only entertains the audience but also encourages them to reflect on the importance of humanity, freedom of thought, and social awareness in modern life.
