The quality of Indonesian language textbooks for Grade VIII is an important factor
in supporting effective learning within the context of curriculum development and the
implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. Textbooks function not only as learning
resources but also as tools for developing students’ competencies. This study
employs a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis based on relevant
scholarly journal articles. The findings indicate that textbook quality is determined
by three main aspects: content feasibility, language, and presentation. Content
feasibility relates to the alignment of materials with learning competencies and their
relevance to students’ daily lives, while the language aspect emphasizes the use of
clear, communicative, and accessible language. The presentation aspect includes
the systematic organization of materials and learning activities that encourage
student engagement and the development of higher-order thinking skills.
Furthermore, high-quality textbooks should accommodate the principles of the
Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasize student-centered, contextual, and activity
based learning, thereby supporting effective and meaningful learning processes.
