Abstract

This study looks at how often teachers use English in class and how that affects students' speaking skills in class VIII.A at SMPN 2 Galesong Selatan. The research uses a quantitative descriptive method and involves 20 students. Data was gathered through a questionnaire with 15 questions that asked students about their views on how much teachers used English during class activities. The data was then analyzed to see how often students answered in different ways. The results show that most students think their teachers use English a lot in class, especially when they answer "often" or "always”. This means English is usually the main language used in teaching. When teachers regularly use English, it helps create a classroom where English is commonly spoken, which helps students feel more confident and improves their speaking abilities. In summary, using English regularly in class helps students improve their speaking skills. So, teachers should use English often in their lessons to make speaking practice more effective for students learning English as a foreign language.
