Abstract

The ability to write technically is a very important skill for Civil Engineering students, but often the linguistic aspect is neglected in favor of numbers and calculations. The purpose of this study is to investigate how mastery of Indonesian can improve the quality of laboratory reports, project proposals, and final assignments of students in the field of Civil Engineering. The approach applied in this study was descriptive qualitative, conducting an analysis of students' written documents and a survey related to students' views on the importance of language rules. The findings of the study show that understanding of PUEBI (General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling), appropriate word selection, and effective sentence structure greatly affect the clarity of technical data presentation and reduce ambiguity in work instructions. It can be concluded that Indonesian is more than just a tool for everyday communication; it is an important element of professionalism in the field of engineering. Improving language literacy skills is directly related to the quality of technical documents produced, so it is highly recommended to integrate Indonesian language material relevant to engineering into the Civil Engineering curriculum.
